ABOUT THE SONG
This song was written around 2005 or 2006. It was written about the same couple that I wrote about in my song “My Last Goodbye”. That song was written from the guy’s perspective whereas this song was written from the girl’s perspective. The verses hint toward a secret that has led to the downfall of their once strong and promising relationship. The choruses are basically the girl telling him that she doesn’t belong to him anymore due to the circumstances that have occurred which have hurt her. This song is a bonus track on my Last One Standing EP. Words and Music By Justina Carubia Last One Standing EP ©2007 Verse 1: Windows are closed But doors are always open The silence you spoke Was as bountiful as nothingAnd the air is cold But somehow I stay warm The time between is torn Chorus: And I speak for you When I say the things you’re thinking That you don’t have the courage to And if you get the nerve To bash me with your little white lies Just remember The winner can lose the prize… Verse 2: Secrets impose To steal a fate once roaring with thunder Now are disclosed And all that we’ve worked for Is bound to fall underAnd plagiarized Are the words you used to win me over oooh, Game Over Chorus: And I speak for you When I say the things you’re thinking That you don’t have the courage to And if you get the nerve To bash me with your little white lies Just remember The winner can lose the prize… Just remember The winner can lose the prize… Bridge: We’re playin with fire We’re treddin in water And all that we’ve worked for Is bound to fall under The things that we do We put ourselves For Love Chorus: And I speak for you When I say the things you’re thinking That you don’t have the courage to And if you get the nerve To bash me with your little white lies Just remember The winner can lose the prize… Just remember The winner can lose the prize…

ABOUT THE SONG
This was the second song I ever wrote (2002) and it's about dwelling on a friend who has changed as a result of a romantic relationship. It's about reminiscing back to when things were more friendly with that person before the romance, and how romantic feelings and emotions can make things so complicated, and sometimes very awkward. Oh teen romance, how I don't miss you at all! Words and Music by Justina Carubia Self Titled EP ©2003 Verse 1: Time’s been passin’ so slow But you have changed I try not to think of you But memories still remain Pre Chorus: I even ripped your picture off my wall I tell myself not to wait for you to call Chorus: I know you don’t want me no more It’s driving me insane I liked you The way you were before Why’d you have to change? I liked you The way you were before Verse 2: My heart still trembles at The thought of you But it’s only a matter of time Till I’m through with you Pre Chorus: Don’t wanna hide in the shadows of love anymore I just want you The way you were before Chorus: I know you don’t want me no more It’s driving me insane I liked you The way you were before Why’d you have to change? I liked you The way you were before Bridge: There was something there But now you just don’t care Chorus: I know you don’t want me no more It’s driving me insane I liked you The way you were before Why’d you have to change? I liked you The way you were before I liked you The way you were before I liked you The way you were before ABOUT THE SONG
I wrote this song around 2013, I had just gotten a new notebook, and when I get new notebooks, I always get this sudden burst of inspiration. Something about the blank pages, makes me want to fill them all with songs and creative thoughts. When I got this notebook, I had given myself a challenge that I wanted to write one song a day. Well, that challenge didn't last long at all, hahaha! But I got this song out of it! The song is based on the book The Frenzy, by one of my favorite authors Francesca Lia Block. It's about a girl who is a werewolf, so that inspired me to write this song from her perspective. This song wasn't written about the book specifically, I just used the concept to get a feel of what it would be like inside the mind of a girl with supernatural tendencies who has the desire to eat people hahaha. I could see the production going in the style of Christina Aguilera's song "Infatuation". It definitely has a latin rhythm type feel which is a lot of fun. Music & Lyrics By Justina Carubia Scratch Demos © 2013 Verse 1: So it's getting pretty dark now Gonna lose the light soon honey Shoulda gotten in that car Shoulda taken that ride When you had the chance Cuz I got my eye on somethin' I'm gettin' pretty hungry baby Mmm Mmm Am I making you nervous? Cuz I could see the sweat Drippin' from your hands Pre Chorus: Cuz you are the one You are the one You are the one That I gotta have... Chorus: I can't control this hunger It's got its hold on me And I'm never gonna let it go You'll never find The strength inside to fight me You can hide, But you'll never get away From the Frenzy Verse 2: So now that we're alone now Do ya feel the tension honey? Cuz I can see your heartbeat Trying to fight its way to me Through your chest You were never a believer Of the supernatural honey Mmm Mmm But then you see the moonlight And any doubts that you had Were put to rest... Pre Chorus: Cuz you are the one You are the one You are the one That I gotta have... Chorus: I can't control this hunger It's got its hold on me And I'm never gonna let it go You'll never find The strength inside to fight me You can hide, But you'll never get away From the Frenzy Bridge: Don't move too fast Cuz I will be the one to show you How it feels To be at the mercy of an... Of an animal You can run faster And faster and faster Don't think that I won't catch up... INSTRUMENTAL BREAK Chorus: I can't control this hunger It's got its hold on me And I'm never gonna let it go You'll never find The strength inside to fight me Fight me, OH! I can't control this hunger It's got its hold on me And I'm never gonna let it go You'll never find The strength inside to fight me Fight Me, Fight Me Oooh Oooh But you'll never get away from the Frenzy... Whoa Whoa Whoa..... ABOUT THE SONG
I wrote this song in the summer of 2008 about a relationship that started out really strong, and fizzled out pretty quickly due to a lot of mixed feelings on behalf of both parties involved. It's just about really missing that person, and the way things once were between you and them. This song is mostly reminiscing about the friendship aspect of that relationship, and missing those moments. This song is really based in feelings of regret of letting someone go, and then later realizing that you had made a mistake, but by that point, it's already too late because they have already moved on. In the song, I compare the relationship to Strawberry Incense, what was once a sweet and fiery relationship, has now burned away and all that's left is the destruction of the relationship, or the ash, metaphorically speaking. Music & Lyrics By Justina Carubia Scratch Demos © 2008 Verse 1: We were so spontaneous You made me surprise myself Beach blanket buddies at 6 in the morning And we both got burnt to hell You sure made sunburn fun Now all the layers peel When did we jump off the track? Will we ever get it back? Only time will tell... Chorus: Cuz you're like strawberry incense Your love burning down Yesterday's memories all fall to the ground And the ash is what's left here Now you're not around You're like Strawberry Incense Strawberry Incense Verse 2: It's not until you're far from home Amidst the ghosts of Old Jerome And that's when you realize And that's when you know That's when love makes you miss the one You know means the most The scrapbook that I made for you I never got to give to you It sits in a box hiding under my bed Can't bring myself to face the pages You never read... Chorus: Cuz you're like strawberry incense Your love burning down Yesterday's memories all fall to the ground And the ash is what's left here Now you're not around You're like Strawberry Incense Strawberry Incense Bridge: Maybe I'm a little too late It was a chance to blow But baby If you, if you change your mind I'm still waiting for the rocks To hit my window... Instrumental Break Chorus: Cuz you're like strawberry incense Your love burning down Yesterday's memories all fall to the ground And the ash is what's left here Now you're not around You're like Strawberry Incense Strawberry Incense Why couldn't you at least put up a fight? Cuz you're the one I'm wanting here To hold me at night I let you go, and that was then But now it feels so right You're like Strawberry Incense Strawberry Incense Strawberry Incense ABOUT THE SONG
I wrote this song when I was in my first year of art school around 2002. I just wrote it about the cattiness that young girls display toward one another. I had encountered that a lot growing up, and I really wanted to put it into song. The lyrics are a bit amateur, but it was only the 3rd song I had ever written, so I’d like to give myself a little credit where credit is due. I would love to re-record this at some point, in my adult voice. You can really hear my immaturity and lack of dynamic and control in my young little teen voice. Words & Music By Justina Carubia Self Titled EP ©2003 Verse 1: She sits in class fixin’ her face As if someone really cared She looks up from her mirror Givin’ off her evil stares Pre Chorus: She goes back To her world Of perfection In that piece of glass in her hand I roll my eyes And turn away As she flips her hair once again Chorus: Don’t worry bout first impressions Her face is all that matters to her Don’t drop that mirror girl It’ll shatter your perfect world doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo Oh whoa uh-huh uh-huh Whoa- Hey -oh -oh Verse 2: You think you’d have egg on your face The way she stares you down As you walk on by And your clothes, they’re not her taste You could tell by the way That she rolls her eyes Pre Chorus: I’m sorry that I can’t live up To your expectations, whoa whoa You’re too stuck up, I give up! I won’t even try to be nice… Chorus: Don’t worry bout first impressions Her face is all that matters to her Don’t drop that mirror girl It’ll shatter your perfect world Bridge: I hope one day for that price you’ll pay For all those dirty looks and the things you’d say Outro: I hope you drop your world I hope you drop your world… ABOUT THE SONG
You might know this one when I debuted it on NBC Philadelphia’s 10! Show, or if you were a regular at the Nutley Pub in the summer of 2008. This song is basically about not waiting around for someone who isn’t worth waiting around for. You know the expression “Don’t hold your breath”, meaning don’t expect anything to come out of said situation? Well the lyric “If I held my breath for you, I’d be dead by now, and I so love being alive…” , is just saying that you realize nothing is ever going to come out of waiting around for someone who just doesn’t care to show you the same feelings/actions as you are putting towards them. It’s not worth it, life’s too short…MOVE ON!! By the way, this song is super repetitive, it COULD be the next "song that doesn't end... yes it goes on and on my friend..." Words and Music by Justina Carubia Acoustic Demos ©2008 INTRO : If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Woah Woah Verse 1: Swimming in the deep blue nothingness Of uncertainty I keep this to myself, I tell nobody else It seems a thousand days you left me Floating with no destiny But the air is running out The air is running out Pre Chorus: I clear my lungs This could be the last time But then I stop and I think to myself Chorus: If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Woah If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Woah Woah Verse 2: Did you always have this much control I could be sinking by the minute But this could be the last time (This could be the last time!) My oxygen is hostage and held to my captive heart It doesn’t even beat for me So I’m cutting my own line I’m cutting my own line Pre Chorus: I clear my lungs This could be the last time But then I stop and I think to myself Chorus: If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Woah If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Woah Woah Woah Woah Pre Chorus: I clear my lungs This could be the last time But then I stop and I think to myself Chorus Repeat 2x If I held my breath for you Then I’d be dead by now And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Whoa If I held my breath for you I’d die a thousand times And I so love being alive And I so love being alive Whoa ABOUT THE SONG
I was in art school when I wrote this around 2002 or 03 and I remember being friends with this kid who was a bit of a clown. He didn't take life all too seriously, and he definitely didn't take his work and classes seriously either. He was starting to fall into line with the trouble makers of the school, and it was like I didn't even know the person he was becoming anymore. It made me sad to see someone I was friends start to not really care about his own well-being, and blow off his responsibilities. This song is about him being oblivious to the world around him because he was so in his own bubble. The line "go get some more of what you need" was an obscure reference to weed, haha. I was listening to a lot of Lisa Loeb at the time and I really loved her juvenile style of storytelling through her lyrics, so I tried to emulate the same kind of lyrical style. Music and Lyrics By Justina Carubia Scratch Demos ©2002 Verse 1: There once was a boy Who lived in a place he called nowhere Well that's what it was to him He lived his live Oblivious to everything around him He said, "Don't bother me for, I don't know what day it is..." He said, "Just let me be, And you will see..." Chorus: Oblivion Boy What are you gonna make of yourself When all the fun is over What will you be? Verse 2: One day, While sitting next to A pile of magazines I started flipping through He asked, "What does this word mean And who is she?" I said, "Don't bother me for You don't know what day it is So I'll just let you be Go get some more of what you need..." Chorus: Oblivion Boy What are you gonna make of yourself When all the fun is over What will you be? ABOUT THE SONG
I wrote this song around 2002 or 2003 for my boyfriend at the time. It's just a super innocent puppy love type of song. It's also lyrically very codependent sounding in retrospect HAHAH! Oh, young love (eye roll and puke)... Words & Music By Justina Carubia Scratch Demos ©2002 Verse 1: I have you to myself I want nobody else But you in my life right now And when we spend Every minute together Pre Chorus: I know nothing can go wrong This feeling is so strong I can't even breathe I'm wrapped up in the scent of you and me Chorus: And I sometimes don't realize how much I need you in my life And I just wanna let you know I love you so and I'm never gonna let you go ... Verse 2: And in my times of need You never hesitate to lead Me in the right direction And when you lend Your hand to me Pre Chorus: I know nothing can go wrong This feeling is so strong I can't even breathe I'm wrapped up in the scent of you and me Bridge: And I wait for you You always seem to pull me through Pre Chorus: Nothing can go wrong This feeling is so strong I can't even breathe I'm wrapped up in the scent of you and me Break: And I sometimes don't realize how much I need you in my life And I just wanna let you know I love you so and I'm never gonna let you go ... Last Chorus Repeat 3x ABOUT THE SONG
I wrote this song around 2004 with my keyboardist, Steve. He came up with the piano and chords, and I wrote the lyrics and played off of the melody of the keys that he already had there. The lyrical content and even mood of the song is a bit more depressing than most of the guitar pop songs I had written up to this point. However, I'm a huge Evanescence fan, and I really love classical/goth ballads, so I saw this collaboration as a way to experiment in that genre. We never officially recorded this, but I would love to still do so at some point, as my voice has matured a lot and I think I could do more justice to it now, than I did on this demo at the age of 20. VERSE 1: I can't take this pain You're shaking, trembling Next to me, I'm suffering I can't breathe Keep your pity I don't need Your sympathy I've come to terms with myself PRE CHORUS: And I know things can't last Forever CHORUS: But things were good Never Better Now the light Is shutting you out Only darkness is What's to come Won't you miss me once I'm gone Gone... VERSE 2: You used to be the One who saved me Now you are the one who breaks me My heart is sharp like Shards of glass I can't rewind the past I've put behind me PRE CHORUS: And I know things can't last BRIDGE: Every day is a battle to fly To find Those wings that these tears try to hide If only I could look past sky To see what truly lies PRE CHORUS: I know that things can't last Forever... CHORUS: But things were good Never Better Now the llight Is shutting you out Only darkness is What's to come Won't you miss me once I'm gone Gone... ABOUT THE SONG
This song was written around 2005 or 2006 about a relationship between two friends of mine. It’s basically from the boy’s point of view. He hurt her and he knows he was wrong, but he goes back to apologize multiple times. The girl in this situation is standing her ground and doesn’t want to give him anymore chances. This song is his plea one last time, before he gives up on her for good. They never did work out. Words and Music by Justina Carubia Last One Standing EP © 2007 Verse 1: You and me We were meant to be They can tell you that they love you but They’ll be sayin Something they don’t really mean Pre Chorus: These words I say to you are true But still you don’t believe me Chorus: So this is my last goodbye You see me cry but still Tell me you don’t love me This is my last goodbye Before I go away… Verse 2: You and me We were meant to be Last time you told me that you loved me but You were sayin it Only to get rid of me Pre Chorus: These words I say to you are true But still you don’t believe me Chorus: So this is my last goodbye You see me cry but still Tell me you don’t love me This is my last goodbye Before I go away This is my last goodbye My last goodbye This is my last goodbye Before I go away Bridge: The water’s pourin over my head And you watch me drown But deep down I know you wanna save me Chorus: So this is my last goodbye You see me cry but still Tell me you don’t love me This is my last goodbye Before I go away This is my last goodbye My last goodbye This is my last goodbye My last goodbye |
