JUSTINA BIOGRAPHY
Four time Asbury Music Award Nominee and New Jersey native Justina Carubia, has been playing guitar and writing her own songs since she was 18. She started her solo music career with the influences of classic and folk rock, penning all of her own acoustic tunes based on personal experiences. She really honed her craft as a storyteller right from the very start.
In May of 2005, Justina released her five song, fully produced debut EP titled “Break of Day”, which was produced by Jason Moscartolo and John Harvey (Tony C and the Truth/Lava Records) and Marc Ciprut (Joss Stone). In December the same year, she recorded her single “Believe” for the Lainie’s Angels Foundation to raise charity for kids with cancer and blood disorders. In 2007, she recorded her long awaited follow-up EP “Last One Standing” which she co-produced alongside of Wayne Dorell (Hey Tiger/Pigeon Club Studios). ”Last One Standing” contains more mature lyrics and is creatively produced. She spent 2008 touring the Tri-state area, playing notable in NYC such as The Bitter End, National Underground, and landed a spot on Philadelphia’s Morning 10! Show. She went on to win a few contests with her original songs such as Stereofame.com’s Artist of the Month Contest, and the Fully Loaded Vocale Competition in NYC.
In 2009, Justina tried out her luck on the L.A. music circuit where she showcased her talents in a showcase for Jive Records. She was the only act in the show who played her own instrument and designed her own outfit! She ultimately headed back to the east coast and upon her return she started working with Jens Gad (“Return to Innocence”-Enigma). They penned a few songs and pitched to major artists such as Ashley Tisdale and Christina Aguilera.
Discouraged with a lack of interest in her solo material, she decided to go a different route altogether. In 2010 she formed the rock band Stelladeora, with Avinash Patel. The band’s sound is derived from many combined rock influences such as Incubus, Paramore, Envy on the Coast, Evanescence, VersaEmerge, Coheed & Camria, etc. This new project enabled Justina to focus more on being a vocalist and a lyricist. She had always been a storyteller first and foremost, and with the creation of an original concept behind the band’s music, it enabled her to express herself in a more creative way than ever before. The band released their first EP “A Dosage From Delusional” in June 2012, and are currently gearing up to record their 2nd release.
Although Justina keeps busy these days with her rock band endeavors, she still dabbles in her solo material from time to time. In the past year she recorded and released her single “Dreamworld” which was produced by Rohan Sukhdeo. The track was also used by Hollywood Girl Pictures in a trailer for their Indie Go Go Campaign!
In February of 2022, Justina teamed up with internet friend Kristina "Seka" Babich to write 20 original compositions inspired by the 90s witch classic Practical Magic. In October of 2022, the duo turned their musical endeavor and obsession in Magnolia Street Podcast, a musically inspired Practical Magic Fandom Podcast.
