ABOUT THE SONG
I was in art school when I wrote this around 2002 or 03 and I remember being friends with this kid who was a bit of a clown. He didn't take life all too seriously, and he definitely didn't take his work and classes seriously either. He was starting to fall into line with the trouble makers of the school, and it was like I didn't even know the person he was becoming anymore. It made me sad to see someone I was friends start to not really care about his own well-being, and blow off his responsibilities. This song is about him being oblivious to the world around him because he was so in his own bubble. The line "go get some more of what you need" was an obscure reference to weed, haha. I was listening to a lot of Lisa Loeb at the time and I really loved her juvenile style of storytelling through her lyrics, so I tried to emulate the same kind of lyrical style. Music and Lyrics By Justina Carubia Scratch Demos ©2002 Verse 1: There once was a boy Who lived in a place he called nowhere Well that's what it was to him He lived his live Oblivious to everything around him He said, "Don't bother me for, I don't know what day it is..." He said, "Just let me be, And you will see..." Chorus: Oblivion Boy What are you gonna make of yourself When all the fun is over What will you be? Verse 2: One day, While sitting next to A pile of magazines I started flipping through He asked, "What does this word mean And who is she?" I said, "Don't bother me for You don't know what day it is So I'll just let you be Go get some more of what you need..." Chorus: Oblivion Boy What are you gonna make of yourself When all the fun is over What will you be?
