LYRICS

PictureHere I am at 18 with my first guitar. My cousin Jessica and I are having some fun co-writing some lyrics.

I started writing music when I received my first guitar for my 18th birthday. I remember locking myself in my room for hours, marveling at the works of other singer-songwriters I had so dearly looked up to. Some of my favorites were Jewel, Michelle Branch, Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow, Fiona Apple and Lisa Loeb. The list is actually pretty endless, but these were the poetic women who really shaped my love for writing in the lyrical style. Most of my songs, I played around the NJ Acoustic Open Mic circuit, and I was even fortunate enough to have been able to record a few songs  or “excerpts” of this life of mine. I hope you enjoy reading through these, as much as I did creating them.

ABOUT THE SONG
This song was written in 2003 or 2004, but it wasn’t until 2005 that I realized why the creativity Gods had sent it to me. In 2005, I was doing a photo shoot in NYC in a building down by Chelsea Piers; we were looking for interesting backdrops to shoot in front of. We passed by a little convention hall where an event was going. Whoever was running this random and mysterious event saw me walking around with my guitar and had asked me to come in play some songs for them. However, they were not setup for live performance and lacked a mic stand, PA, etc. We then found out that the event was for an organization called Lainie’s Angels and it was a non profit organization which benefits children and families of children with cancer and other blood disorders. I knew I wanted to get involved with this organization somehow, and it just so happened that its founders were from Metuchen, NJ, which is just a few towns over from my hometown in NJ. Small world huh?

Well they hold soccer events every year to raise money for the organization and all the families that they help, so that following October I was invited to play their event. During the event they hold this balloon releasing ceremony, where all the attendees can donate a dollar to get a balloon and write the names of the loved ones they’ve lost in their lives. All the balloons are placed under a huge net, and at the end of the day of the event, they are released into the heavens to reach the angels we had written our messages to. During this releasing ceremony, I sang this song that I wrote called “Believe”. It also just so happened that they had a cute little angel postcard at their merch tent with the word “Believe” on it. I knew that the angels were giggling away upstairs as they had done their job to align the stars and make this project happen.

I knew I had wanted to donate the song to the charity and upon some generous donations, we were able to record the track and reproduce it to sell at the events from then on. I had played at the soccer event every year for a few years, and every time I sang the song during the balloon releasing ceremony, it was such an emotional release and I was so happy and honored to be a part of it, and touch the lives of all who were in need of a song of hope.

Verse 1:

Do you believe
In a little thing
Called superstition
It rules my life
I always knew that
I could rely
On Intuition
It’s just so right

Pre Chorus:
If I took your palm
Placed it in my hand
And read you your life

Chorus:
Would you believe that
It can happen ?
I know it can…
Just say I think so…
To prove to me that
You do believe
Believe…

Verse 2:
My only worry
Is that other people
Think I’m crazy
They just don’t care
They don’t believe
In what I call a miracle
But maybe…
They’re just too scared

Pre Chorus:
When they’re
Walkin down the street
And they step on a crack
Who’s back are they
Breaking?

Chorus:
Would you believe that
It can happen ?
I know it can…
Just say I think so…
To prove to me that
You do believe
Believe…

Bridge:
You always find a way
To make me feel like
Such a fool
But I don’t really care
Cuz one day,
I know that you’ll
Believe…

Chorus:
Would you believe that
It can happen ?
I know it can…
Just say I think so…
To prove to me that
You do believe
Believe…

Outro:
(Would you believe that
It can happen ?)
Would you believe that
It can happen ?
I know it can…
